Our History:

Theme Park Magazine started as an idea on May 27, 2000. It took 21 years for that idea to become a reality. Founder and editor Joe Tracy has always been passionate about three things:

  1. Theme Parks.
  2. Themed Entertainment.
  3. Guest Experiences.

Our Story: From a Childhood Dream to Your Premier Theme Park Resource:

Theme Park Magazine isn’t just a publication; it’s the culmination of a lifelong passion. For founder and editor Joe Tracy, the love for themed experiences began early. As a child, he meticulously filled notebooks with plans for his imaginary theme park, ‘Funtasia.’ He’d sketch out every land, with a colossal pyramid at its heart, featuring a roller coaster that burst through its apex and cascaded down its side. It was all a testament to a vivid imagination and an early dream of owning his own theme park.

This early fascination matured into a profound dedication. Throughout his life, Joe has explored many theme parks, with Disneyland always holding a special place due to Walt Disney’s visionary genius. This wasn’t just a casual hobby; it was a calling. He’d make theme park trips even if it meant going solo. In fact, for his 18th birthday, he celebrated with a solo adventure to Disneyland!

Beyond the major players, Joe also holds a deep admiration for unique gems like the Enchanted Forest Theme Park in Salem, Oregon. This park, built by a single visionary against all odds, embodies the spirit of perseverance and the magic of a personal dream brought to life, recently celebrating its 50th anniversary.

What truly captivates him is the power of themed experiences that can transport you, allowing you to get lost in another world. This fascination extends to every detail, particularly the guest experience. While recognizing the incredible immersion and top-tier rides Universal Creative achieved with Epic Universe, Joe’s discerning eye still noted areas for improvement, like the need for more shade. For him, prioritizing the guest means thinking of everything that enhances their journey.

This blend of lifelong passion, deep industry knowledge, and an unwavering commitment to the guest experience led to Theme Park Magazine finally launching on June 1, 2021. It was a journey 21 years in the making, from that initial idea on May 27, 2000, to becoming the ad-free, in-depth resource you rely on today.

Joe Tracy is the founder and editor of Theme Park Magazine. He has spent a lifetime as a passionate enthusiast of theme parks, themed entertainment, and guest experiences. Tracy launched Theme Park Magazine in June 2021, as a heartfelt expression of his love for all things themed.

With more than 20 years of experience in traditional print and online publishing, and a degree in Public Relations, Tracy is an expert in his field. However, he remains humble and focused on delivering high-quality content that captures the essence of what makes theme parks so magical.
