Imagine stepping into your own chillingly familiar version of Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion. This eerie possibility is a reality in Duluth, Georgia – a 10,000-square-foot replica of the iconic attraction has emerged on the market for $2.2 million. The brainchild of Mark Hurt, who had done work for Walt Disney Imagineering, this home whispers secrets from beyond the grave.
Haunted Mansion: From Theme Park to Dream Home
Tucked within the exclusive Sweet Bottom gated community, this six-bedroom, six-bath mansion offers a unique twist on Southern charm. Inspired by the legendary Disneyland Haunted Mansion, the home marries stately Greek Revival architecture with a chilling undercurrent of the macabre. Elaborate cast iron details – crafted in the same foundry used for Disney attractions – adorn both upper and lower galleries, hinting at the eerie delights within.
Hurt’s love for the Haunted Mansion comes from his father being an animator for Walt Disney and his contract work with Walt Disney Imagineering. He was given access to Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion to do measurements and research for his home.
Living and Entertaining, With a Spooky Twist
This isn’t just a large home; it’s a haven for those who love entertaining with a touch of the unusual. The two-tiered basement is a spooky playground, boasting a full bar, pool room, poker table, media space, and bath. There’s even a full unfinished apartment above the three-car garage for extended guests or potential in-laws.
The main floor half-bathroom will be a delight for Haunted Mansion fans, where a mirror speaks to people when they wash their hands and Ezra makes an appearance. The home also contains original “the Hitchhiking Ghosts,” art and some gargoyle light fixtures.
Of course, everyday life doesn’t have to be all ghouls and goblins. The open living area seamlessly integrates a chef’s kitchen with a butler’s pantry and grilling deck. Cozy up by the hand-chiseled oversized stone fireplace in the den or let the sunroom bathe you in natural light. At the same time, you enjoy serene views of the private backyard, which spills out onto wooded conservation land.
Outside the gates is a welcoming, picturesque, park-like common area. This can also be enjoyed from the expansive private roof deck, offering a sitting area, a dining space, and a hot tub.
Within the gated community is access to a clubhouse, playground, pool, tennis courts, and even a pickleball court.
