On June 13, 2021, the Indiana Jones movie Raiders of the Lost Ark turned 40 years old. To celebrate this anniversary, Theme Park Magazine is taking a look at the different Indiana Jones rides and attractions.
Disneyland: Temple of the Forbidden Eye
On March 4, 1995, Disneyland opened its Temple of the Forbidden Eye ride at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. During the two years it took to bring the ride to life, more than 400 Walt Disney Imagineers worked on it. After walking through an impressively themed temple, guests board a jeep (EMV – Enhanced Motion Vehicle) and take off on an adventure through the Temple of the Forbidden Eye. Here’s the ride video:
Tokyo DisneySea: Temple of the Crystal Skull
On September 4, 2001, Tokyo DisneySea opened its Indiana Jones adventure, Temple of the Crystal Skull. Like the Disneyland version, guests board a jeep for an adventurous trek through a temple. While there are many similar elements to the Disneyland version, there are also unique aspects (like the tornado). Here’s the ride video:
Disneyland Paris: Indiana Jones et le Temple du Péril
The Disneyland Paris Indiana Jones ride is quite different than the other two as this one is a roller coaster. Indiana Jones et le Temple du Péril opened on July 30, 1993 and is based on the Indiana Jones Temple of Doom movie with the runaway mining carts. Here’s the video:
While those are the only three Indiana Jones rides, there is an attraction at the Walt Disney World Resort:
Hollywood Studios: Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!
On August 25, 1989, Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida opened the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! The show mixes stunts, visual effects, and pyrotechnics in an action-adventure that recreates some of the stunts from the Indiana Jones movies. Here’s a video:
Did you know that a new Indiana Jones movie is in the works and 78-year-old Harrison Ford is reprising his role as Indiana Jones? The untitled fifth installment of the Indiana Jones series will hit theaters on July 29, 2022.
