One of the most impressive “submarine” rides at any theme park is where you may least expect it – LEGOLAND® California Resort. Opened in 2018, the LEGO® City Deep Sea Adventure ride takes you on a treasure hunt in waters inhabited by real sea creatures.

Here’s a ride video by the popular SoCal Attractions 360 channel on YouTube followed by more information on the ride:

As you can see from the video, the LEGO City Deep Sea Adventure ride takes up to 12 guests at a time on a submarine exploration of the deep seas, looking for lost treasure from a long-ago LEGO shipwreck. Best of all, there are more than 2,000 real sea creatures swimming alongside the submarine.

“For the first time in the United States, we are bringing our guests onboard a real submarine and taking them underwater to discover a truly amazing world filled with more than 2,000 real sea animals, including marine tropical fish, several species of stingrays and a variety of exotic sharks,” said LEGOLAND California Resort’s General Manager Peter Ronchetti in 2017.

Behind the scenes, Ethos Architecture was the principal designer for Deep Sea Adventure. The ride takes place in a 300,000-gallon aquarium. The real sea life helps differentiate the LEGOLAND submarine ride from other parks that don’t have real sea creatures in their submarine rides.

Merlin Entertainments took the effects to new levels by having the “real” 3-foot tall LEGO diver talk to guests with a mouth that moves. A hidden projector makes it look like the figure is really talking to you.
