Jolly Rancher Remix Rollercoaster at Hersheypark

Hersheypark’s Attraction Lineup Now Sweeter with Two Jolly Rancher Rides

by Austin Tyler

Hersheypark, the 121-acre theme park in Hershey, Pennsylvania, has opened two “sweet” new Jolly Rancher rides for the 2022 season.

Jolly Rancher Remix is a re-themed Vekoma Boomerang coaster, and Mix’d Flavored By Jolly Rancher is a Nebulaz flat ride.

Located in the Pioneer Frontier section of the park, these two vibrant new additions to the Hersheypark attraction lineup will catch guests’ eyes as they pass by, beckoning them to take a closer look.

Jolly Rancher Remix Roller Coaster

Jolly Rancher Remix sports a slick new paint job and a groovy new lighting package, upbeat soundtrack, fog effects, and a unique flavor tunnel where you’ll be blasted with one of five Jolly Rancher scents as your train barrels through the enclosure. The party starts before even boarding the train, as larger-than-life Jolly Rancher candies hanging overhead pulse various colors, stage lights dance around the station, and music fills the air.

As riders wait to ascend the lift hill, the jumbo candies and lights shuffle through various colors as a booming voice announces which ‘flavor’ your ride will be. Reaching 105 feet in the air with a max speed of 47 mph, this thrilling ride is only for the bravest who want to put all their senses to the test.

The lights, sounds, and scents are randomized, giving guests a reason to ride more than once. Once the sun sets, the full impact of lighting in the flavor tunnel emerges. The overall experience lasts nearly two minutes.

Jolly Rancher Remix Used to be Sidewinder

Parkgoers familiar with the Jolly Rancher Remix coaster will recognize it as a reimagined Sidewinder added to the park in 1991. Sidewinder, a Vekoma Boomerang model, had its first significant upgrade in 2011 when new Vekoma manufactured trains replaced the original ones, providing more comfortable restraints for guests. Then, in 2017, magnetic brakes were installed within the station for a more satisfying conclusion to each ride.

The Boomerang model is known for its dual lift hills, three inversions, and the iconic cobra roll, with trains that travel forward and backward through the layout. Being one of the most common coaster models with over 50 installations operating in various parks worldwide, the changes made during its transition to Jolly Rancher Remix help it stand out from the rest. Few coasters incorporate scents in the ride.

Hersheypark Increasing Branded Theming

In a park not particularly known for the detailed theming of its attractions, the effort and unique elements put into this refresh of an existing coaster are likely to be seen as a welcome addition to the park. Furthermore, it ties in more closely with the Hersheypark IP and brand.

In addition to the Jolly Rancher Remix, there is a Jolly Rancher flat ride, character, and a series of new Jolly Rancher treats for guests to choose from.

Mix’d Flavored By Jolly Rancher Ride

Not to be missed in this newly updated area, Mix’d Flavored By Jolly Rancher is the family ride situated between each side of Jolly Rancher Remix’s cobra roll, adding more kinetic energy to this location. This Nebulaz flat ride by Zamperla is adorned with sizeable Jolly Rancher candies and a mixing motion that you ride. Here’s how Hersheypark describes the ride:

“The ride begins by spinning 360 degrees, then shifts into gear and mixes in lifts, drops, and never before seen views, while dodging the other riders. First, you’ll ride forward, then you’ll ride backward for an experience that’s anything but ordinary.”

Hersheypark

These are the latest in Hersheypark’s efforts to add themed attractions that promote their confectionery products. Jolly Rancher Remix and Mix’d Flavored By Jolly Rancher will join Hershey Triple Tower, Kissing Tower, Reese’s Cupfusion, and Candymonium, the B&M hyper coaster that opened with the Chocolatetown expansion in 2020.

Hersheypark currently has 15 roller coasters in its lineup and a wide variety of coaster types for thrill-seekers of all ages. Such a varied array of well-regarded coasters including Skyrush, Great Bear, and Storm Runner help solidify Hersheypark as a can’t-miss destination for coaster enthusiasts and casual park fans alike.

Riders must be at least 48″ (122 cm) tall to enjoy Jolly Rancher Remix, and at least 42″ (106 cm) tall with a supervising companion or 48″ (122 cm) tall without one to ride Mix’d Flavored By Jolly Rancher.
