As Halloween draws near and the shadows lengthen across the New York skyline, somewhere, author Bram Stoker’s vision comes to life as guests step into the world of one of the most influential Gothic novels in history. Dreams of Dracula: An Immersive Masquerade Experience is a unique encounter where history, horror, and theatrics converge to create a one-of-a-kind journey, placing guests at the heart of the narrative. In this tale of vampires and voyeurs, Dreams of Dracula delves into English literature in ways seldom explored in classrooms, aiming to quicken the pulse, stimulate the intellect, and make spines shiver as guests venture into the shadows of the Victorian era.

A Creative Collaboration

Bucket Listers, renowned for curating immersive pop-ups and experiences like The Malibu Barbie Café, has extended its reach across 12 prominent cities in the United States, captivating the imaginations of over 15 million people. In cooperation with Never More Immersive, a theatrical production company celebrated for its themed experiences such as The Christmas Carol Experience, as well as the artistic talents of Arianne Meneses and the noted NYC mega-club Musica, Bucket Listers helped to orchestrate the metamorphosis of Manhattan’s W 50th Street into a gothic salon. Representing an unimaginable creative collaboration, Dreams of Dracula: An Immersive Masquerade Experience fully embraces the dark themes of Dracula and its immortal allure.

Twilight Transformation: From Neon Nights to Victorian Vignettes

When the night begins, guests are handed elegant masks and instructed to keep them on throughout their visit to Musica. Upon entering, the ambiance resembles a modern nightclub, with visitors mingling beneath the seductive glow of red neon, sipping on specialty cocktails, and immersing themselves in the music that sets the mood. However, this scene quickly shifts to darkness, and suddenly, attendees become transported into the heart of a 19th-century Gothic salon. Through a brief prologue, everyone in attendance discovers they are now esteemed guests in the company of infamous author Oscar Wilde and a gathering of prominent figures, including Mary Shelley, Sigmund Freud, Lord Byron, and, naturally, Bram Stoker himself. Each attendee is free to explore the multi-level experience at their leisure, but in a realm where dreams and nightmares intertwine, there’s no telling what they may encounter.

Choosing Your Dark Adventure

From the start, Dreams of Dracula establishes that this is not an experience for the shy or skittish but makes for an enjoyable evening. Partygoers who opt to stay downstairs amid Wilde’s lively gathering will interact with a palette of eccentric personalities for the evening. Some may have their tarot cards read by Wilde, accompanied by enthralling stories of his wild escapades. Others could be invited to explore the mysteries of hypnosis and Freud’s groundbreaking theories in a private study. Meanwhile, a fortunate few might be serenaded by a seductive vampiress before the evening’s over. Nevertheless, when the moment arrives, everyone is anticipated to join a lively celebration led by a troupe of Romani dancers. It’s here most of the chose-your-own adventure elements come into play, making for a unique experience depending on the choices made by guests, the various people they encounter, and where the night brings them.

Venturing Upstairs: Into the Heart of the Story

Upstairs, guests can enter Bram Stoker’s feverish dreams, surrounded by a live performance of Dracula. For example, in one room, they might witness Lucy Westenra’s terrifying transformation into a vampire, while in another, they can watch in curiosity as Renfield raves from his lofty cell. Moreover, during this retelling of Dracula, the action extends into the audience as vampires creep among the guests, Renfield engages in a messy handshake with onlookers, and the final battle erupts with Dracula within the aisles. Using evocative choreography, sensual imagery, and creative surroundings, the upstairs portion of Dreams of Dracula hopes to captivate audiences as hauntingly and tantalizingly as a vampire’s kiss.

During Friday and Saturday nights, Dreams of Dracula: An Immersive Masquerade Experience adopts a black-tie dress code, encouraging guests to embrace extravagant Gothic or Victorian costumes. For all other performances, entry requires basic black attire. Additionally, please be aware that Dreams of Dracula is a mature event, with an age requirement of 18 or older for entry and at least 21 to purchase alcohol. Furthermore, it’s important to note that the experience includes elements such as hypnosis, tarot readings, darkness, flashing lights, thunder, lightning, and simulated blood.

Beyond the Stage: The Deep Layers of Dreams of Dracula

Dreams of Dracula is not a haunted house attraction, nor an average ballet. What Never More Immersive, Bucket Listers, and their countless collaborators have created is an atmospheric experience that takes a seductive bite out of the Big Apple. It’s a unique performance piece that opens itself to multiple visits as Wilde’s honored guests navigate its branching storyline and interactions. With each visit, attendees may uncover new layers of the story, deeper connections with the characters, and a greater appreciation for the immersion it creates. Whether it’s Dracula or Frankenstein, The Portrait of Dorian Gray, or “Ozymandias,” reading them on a stormy October night is one thing, but stepping into their world is an entirely different, spellbinding experience that requires a curious mind, a courageous heart, and a thirst for romance.
