There are some great themed and dark rides at Efteling theme park in the Netherlands. Themed around “World of Wonders” the theme park was originally a sports park that opened in 1935. It wasn’t until the 1950s that the park began its slow transformation into a fairytale and “world of wonders” experience.

After boarding a boat, guests travel through a jungle where they come upon a wizard who casts a spell granting guests access to the forbidden city, Fata Morgana. Guests then travel through the city, including the district, market, prison, harbor, palace, and treasure chamber.

“Hundreds of treasures are glittering in the dark. And while the Sultan surrounds himself with women and precious gems, the dark cellars are filled with criminals and rats. Spend some time on the water and discover scenes from the Far East. The boat takes you through neighborhoods of poverty and wealth where a giant protects the Sultan’s most precious possessions: gems, jewelry, and gold coins.”
