The high-speed Jurassic World VelociCoaster will officially open at Universal’s Island of Adventure theme park, in Orlando, Flordia, on June 10, 2021. For several weeks the coaster has undergone soft openings and technical rehearsals, allowing fans to experience the thrill ride early.
Jurassic World VelociCoaster – The Experience
The Jurassic World VelociCoaster experience takes place in the park’s raptor paddock. Inside the queue, guests are treated to a Mr. DNA video, raptor statues, movie props, views of raptor training rooms, and videos by the Jurassic World cast. Guests can also see raptors chasing a coaster after its launch through windows along the wall. Reaching the end of the queue, guests board the launch vehicle.
The VelociCoaster reaches speeds of 70 miles per hour and soars 155 feet in the air while weaving to avoid raptors that are loose about the tracks. Guests trying to escape the raptors will experience intense maneuvers (like a barrel roll) along the coaster’s 4,700 feet of track, including near-misses. VelociCoaster is currently the tallest and faster launch coaster in Florida.
Through May, Twitter was full of excited fans, like the one below, who were given the opportunity to ride VelociCoaster early because of the soft openings.
A dinosaur watchtower, lush landscaping, rockwork, and buildings help transport guests to the Jurassic World environment. Familiar faces like Owen Grady, Claire Dearing, and Dr. Henry Wu keep guests apprised of what is going on. Fans of Jurassic World will even encounter “Blue,” Jurassic World’s most famous velociraptor.
