Pirates in Batavia (Piraten in Batavia) is a pirate adventure dark ride at Germany’s Europa-Park. Guests embark upon a journey to help Bartholomeus van Robbemond find the legendary “Dagger of Batavia,” which is rumored to make the person in possession of it invulnerable. The only problem is that you’re not the only ones searching for it!

Brief History of Pirates in Batavia
Pirates in Batavia originally opened in Europa-Park in 1987. The ride was popular among guests and staff. However, on May 26, 2018, tragedy struck. A fireball erupted from a storage facility and quickly spread throughout the Scandinavia section of the park, including the Pirates in Batavia ride building. ABC News tweeted footage of the fire:
Pirates in Batavia was destroyed.
Work began almost immediately in bringing Batavia back to life and on July 28, 2020, the public was able to enjoy a refreshed version of the ride that was bigger and grander than the original.
You can learn more about the new version of the ride by watching the excellent five-part “Pirates in Batavia Making of” series put together by Europa-Park. Find all five videos directly below under Explore More (Videos)
