Shrek’s Merry Fairy Tale Journey takes guests to a puppet show that Shrek and Fiona are putting on to tell show their kids (along with Donkey’s kids) how they met. This ride video is courtesy of Attractions 360 on YouTube.
History of Shrek’s Merry Fairy Tale Journey
Shrek’s Merry Fairy Tale Journey opened in 2017 at the Hollywood-inspired MOTIONGATE Dubai theme park. The Shrek ride is in the Shrek Land area of the DreamWorks Animation Zone, which is an indoor area featuring attractions from Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, Madagascar, and Trolls. The Shrek Land of the DreamWorks area is a highly themed area with a kids’ flat ride and Shrek’s Merry Fairy Tale Journey.
Shrek’s Merry Fairy Tale Journey is a trackless ride, although many people don’t realize it because of the markings on the floor. The story behind the ride is that Shrek and Fiona’s children want to hear how they first met. So they decide to tell the kids in a unique way – through a puppet show! Guests see Shrek and Fiona start the story while controlling puppets. You are then immersed in the story with puppets around you as the story unfolds!
The three key players in the creation of Shrek’s Merry Fairy Tale Journey were RED (Railton Entertainment Design – formerly EDC), BOSA (Bureau Of Story Arts), and ETF Ride Systems.
Work on the project began in 2014 as part of a greater vision of DreamWorks Animation Zone. The ride opened in 2017. Be sure to see the awesome BOSA visualization video in the Explore More (Videos) section below.
