Fans of Harry Potter will soon be able to join in an immersive themed experience thanks to the world premiere of Harry Potter: The Exhibition. This new Harry Potter exhibition launches at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania early next year.

Harry Potter Immersive Environments

Imagine Exhibitions and Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment created the touring exhibition to bring Harry Potter fans closer to the magical environments of the Wizarding World.

“This exhibition will be unlike any other Wizarding World touring exhibition. The inclusion of technology, attention to detail, and integration of magical touches created by our partners at Imagine Exhibitions is truly unique,” says Peter van Roden, Senior Vice President of Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment. “We are elated to be launching the world tour at the Franklin Institute and for fans to be able to have another way to experience the Wizarding World.”

Imagine Exhibitions promises to deliver some of the latest innovations in technology and immersive design for the experience. The company plans on doing this through immersive crafted environments that help bring the Harry Potter stories to life.

Tom Zaller, CEO of Imagine Exhibitions, tells Theme Park Magazine, “I have always loved the combination of narrative-driven storytelling, immersive theming, and interactive experiences and the all-new Harry Potter: The Exhibition definitely delivers on all of these fronts. It is the largest and most comprehensive touring exhibition ever created about the Wizarding World and our guests are sure to be entertained and enlightened… From the cupboard under the stairs to the latest Fantastic Beasts films and beyond, fans of all ages will be delighted to see our exhibition either at its World Premiere at The Franklin Institute in 2022 or in cities around the world on the global tour.”

The design of the exhibition and props/costumes in the touring exhibition are based around:

  • Harry Potter movies and stories.
  • Fantastic Beasts movies.
  • Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Harry Potter Exhibition Tour

While Harry Potter: The Exhibition is launching in the United States, it will also travel to Europe, Latin America, the Asia-Pacific Region, Africa, and the Middle East. The exact dates for the touring exhibition have yet to be announced.

This Harry Potter: The Exhibition is different than all the other ones, including the exhibition with the same name that opened in 2009 at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry.

Harry Potter History

The Harry Potter franchise started with a book by British author J.K. Rowling, published in 1997, titled, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” (“Sorcerer’s Stone” in the U.S.) It was followed by six other books in the main Harry Potter story, ending with “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” in 2007.

Harry Potter became a major motion picture success starting with “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” (“Sorcerer’s Stone” in the U.S.) which was released on November 14, 2001. There were seven more Harry Potter movies released in the series, with the final one being released in 2011. In total, all the movies brought in $7.7 billion, making it the third highest-grossing film franchise of all time. The only other movie franchises to make more are Star Wars and James Bond.
