Disney fans with Amazon Echo devices will soon have access to “Hey Disney!,” a way to bring Disney experiences home.
Last November, Disney started rolling out Hey Disney on Amazon Echo devices with mouse ears at Walt Disney World’s Polynesian Village Resort.
Hey Disney – a Magical Disney Voice Assistant
Hey Disney allows users to bring the magic of Disney into their homes. Once enabled via Alexa Skills, Amazon Echo devices will become Disneyfied. Hey Disney will allow users to:
- Hear Disney characters comment on the local weather.
- Hear Disney characters tell jokes.
- Play Disney trivia games.
- Listen to Disney Soundscapes (i.e., Endor, Magic Kingdom, etc.).
- Listen to Disney stories.
- Set alarms.
- Hear Disney character introductions.
Hey Disney will also have interactive features for MagicBand+ users. For example, when a user gets a trivia question correct, their MagicBand+ will light up and vibrate. This will be the first time Disney has programmed the MagicBand+ to work outside of Disney parks.
Hey Disney Soundscapes Put Users in Various Disney Experiences
While jokes, trivia, stories, weather, etc. are typical features of Alexa, one of the more unique features of Hey Disney on Alexa Echo devices is the ability to be immersed in Disney worlds via Soundscapes. This feature will allow users to spend hours immersed in the sounds of places like Endor, the Magic Kingdom, and others. The Soundscape experiences include:
- Spirit of the Pride Lands (The Lion King)
- Tiana’s Bayou Celebration (Princess and the Frog)
- Nemo’s Undersea Enchantment (Finding Nemo)
- Pirate Adventures (Pirates of the Caribbean)
- A Frozen Journey (Frozen)
- Moana’s Voyage (Moana)
- A Coco Homecoming (Coco)
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Planet Mix (Guardians of the Galaxy)
- Disney Parks Magic (Magic Kingdom)
- Several more, including Star Wars Endor.
Hey Disney Alexa Voice Assistant Will Not Be a Disney Character
Instead of using a Disney character to respond to commands given to Hey Disney, Disney went with a voice actor instead and use characters in supporting roles. Nicolas Roye, who has done many anime and video game voiceovers, is officially the voice of Hey Disney. Roye’s role is “the Disney magical companion.”
More than 20 characters will be part of the Hey Disney launch for home Alexa Echo devices. Characters include:
- Disney classic characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, and Donald Duck.
- Star Wars Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3PO, and BB-8 droids.
- Guardians of the Galaxy’s Rocket Raccoon and Groot.
- The Muppet’s Fozzie Bear and Miss Piggy
- Alladin’s Genie
- Finding Nemo’s Dory
- Frozen’s Olaf
- Encanto’s Mirabel
- Princess and the Frog’s Princess Tiana
- Cars’ Mater

Editor’s Note: The term “Hey Disney!” contains an exclamation point at the end. For the sake of easy readability of this article, we used it properly in the title, and the first sentence, then removed the exclamation point in future references.
Editor’s Opinion: It would be nice to see Disney take this experience even further, especially for Echo Show users with video access. Things we’d love to see in order to improve the experience:
- A live look into a Disney park (i.e. “Hey, Disney! Show me Disneyland right now.”)
- POV rides (i.e., “Hey, Disney! Let’s ride Pirates of the Caribbean!”)
- Inside looks (i.e., “Hey, Disney! Tell me the history of the Haunted Mansion.”)
- Digital Character meet and greets. (i.e., “Hey Disney! Let’s meet Tiana”)
- More life (i.e., animation) from the characters when they appear on screen.
- Consider making your voice assistant Mickey Mouse.
- Ability to listen to Disney music without being thrown back to Alexa.
There is a lot that can be creatively enhanced for this skill, even within the limits of the device. That would help set this Disney experience more apart from the everyday Alexa experience.
